Concept & History
The Zenith Defy El Primero 21, Reference 95.9001.9004/01.R582, marks a technological turning point for high-frequency chronographs. Zenith builds on this historical legacy and extends the physical limits of mechanical timekeeping. This model series represents the consistent further development of short-time measurement, with the exact recording of hundredths of a second at the heart of the design. This example from 2021 is in New Old Stock condition and is offered with the original papers and box.
Caliber & Technology
The automatic caliber works inside El Primero 9004. It has two independent escapement systems. The regular time display operates at 36,000 vibrations per hour, while the chronograph mechanism oscillates at 360,000 vibrations per hour. The central hand completes one full rotation per second. The construction guarantees a 50 hours power reserve for the basic time display. A sophisticated finish with a skeletonized rotor in the shape of a star completes the technical layout of this high-performance movement.
Housing & material
The complex housing measures 44 mm in diameter and is made of corrosion-resistant Titanium manufactured. The architectural lines are characterized by striking flanks and precisely crafted chamfers, which are alternately polished and satin-finished. The sapphire crystal back provides a detailed view of the movement. The water resistance of 10 ATM reliably protects the mechanism from external influences. A solid link bracelet made from Titanium with integrated folding clasp completes the technical aesthetics and secures the timepiece to the wrist.
Aesthetics & readability
The silver-colored dial in panda style offers a strong visual contrast to the black totalizers. The fine scaling on the rehaut allows the stopped time to be read off precisely. Applied, rhodium-plated indices and hands are coated with luminous material, which ensures clear legibility under adverse lighting conditions. The linear power reserve display for the chronograph at 12 o'clock is functionally integrated into the layout. The cool combination of materials gives the timepiece a strictly technical look.
