Concept & History
The reference 116300 is the larger-sized version of the Datejust line, which Rolex began offering in 2009 under the name Datejust II with a 41 mm diameter. The model responded to the prevailing market demand for a Datejust in a contemporary format without altering the line’s fundamental case and dial architecture. Production of the 116300 ended in 2016 with the introduction of the 126300, which was equipped with the newly developed Caliber 3235.
Caliber & Technology
The Caliber 3136 is an automatic in-house caliber featuring a bidirectional rotor, a Glucydur balance wheel, and a paramagnetic Parachrom hairspring, which is significantly less sensitive to magnetic fields and temperature fluctuations than conventional steel hairsprings. The oscillation frequency is 28,800 vibrations per hour, and the power reserve is approximately 48 hours. Rolex certifies the caliber as a Superlative Chronometer with a daily accuracy of ±2 seconds; an integrated Parachoc shock protection system safeguards the escapement.
Case & Material
The stainless steel Oyster case of the 116300 measures 41 mm in diameter and is water-resistant to 100 meters—secured by a screw-down case back and a Triplock crown. The sapphire crystal features an integrated Cyclops lens. The smooth, polished-satin-finished bezel underscores the watch’s understated appearance. The five-link Oyster bracelet in stainless steel with an Oysterlock safety clasp offers a tool-free fine adjustment of 5 mm.
Aesthetics & Readability
The sunburst silver dial creates a nuanced surface effect depending on the angle of the light: the textured finish adds depth to the surface without compromising readability. Applied hour markers made of 18-karat white gold and Dauphine hands with Chromalight luminescent material ensure clear readability under varying lighting conditions. The date appears at three o’clock under the Cyclops lens with approximately 2.5x magnification.
