IWC Portugieser Tourbillon Mystère white gold
Conception & positioning
The Portugieser Tourbillon Mystère IW504207 combines the legendary Portugieser architecture with the flying tourbillon - one of the most prestigious complications in Haute Horlogerie. The limited edition of 250 pieces in white gold was launched in 2013 and represents the flagship of the Portugieser family with a combination of traditional looks and innovative technology. The 44.2 mm measuring White gold-The case with a concave bezel and short, sloping lugs reduces the visual mass despite the imposing dimensions and enables surprisingly good wearability on wrists from 16 cm in circumference.
Caliber & Technology
The centerpiece is the in-house Caliber 51900 with 44 Stones - a further development of the legendary 51000 series as the world's largest automatic caliber. The flying tourbillon operates at an unusual frequency of 19,800 A/h (2.75 Hz) and one Breguet spiral for isochronous gait in all positions. The bidirectional Pellaton elevator with ceramic components ensures efficient power transmission and an exceptional Power reserve of 7 days (168 hours). The tourbillon cage construction without an upper bridge provides a clear view of the balance, escapement and the characteristic blue hairspring, while the manual winding is integrated as an optional function.
Housing & processing
The 18 carat white gold-housing with 14.5 mm height and 52 mm web-to-web dimension is presented with a polished bezel and satin-finished case middle section. The Water resistance up to 30 meters (3 ATM) meets the standards for dress watches without the pretensions of a sports watch. The sapphire crystal back reveals the generous movement architecture with Côtes de Genève, perlage on the plate and the solid Pellaton winding system. The individual numbering of the limited series is engraved on the edge of the case between the lugs.
Aesthetics & readability
The slate gray dial (Ardoise) with radial sunburst pattern extends almost to the edge of the case and maximizes the functional surface. Applied Arabic numerals in white gold and slender feuille hands in white gold define the classic Portugieser aesthetic. The flying tourbillon at 6 o'clock is surrounded by a screw-down ring with Côtes de Genève decoration - a technical and visual homage to F.P. Journe. The power reserve display at 3 o'clock with up to 168 hours running time and the small seconds at 9 o'clock on recessed sub-dials complete the symmetrical composition with reduced visual elements.
