A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 Zeitzone Time Zone Platin | Ref. 116.025
Concept & History
With the model 116.025, A. Lange & Söhne expanded the Lange 1 family in 2005 to include a time zone function for travelers who wish to constantly monitor two time zones. The rotating bezel, printed with the names of 24 cities, allows the reference city to be selected instantly via the pusher at 8 o’clock, with the hour hand of the small dial jumping in sync. The Lange 1’s off-center dial layout was retained and supplemented with a second subdial for home time. An applied arrow at 5 o’clock marks the selected time zone city, while two additional arrows indicate day or night for both time zones.
Caliber & Technology
The hand-wound caliber L031.1 is manufactured in-house and powers both the standard display and the time zone mechanism. It has a power reserve of 72 hours at a balance wheel frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz) and comprises 417 individual components. Distinctive features include the three-quarter plate made of natural nickel silver with Glashütte ribbing, screw-mounted gold chatons, and the hand-engraved balance cock with swan-neck fine adjustment. Through the sapphire crystal case back, these finishing details of the L031.1 in-house caliber can be viewed in detail.
Case & Material
The case, crafted from solid 950 platinum, measures 41.9 mm in diameter and is 11 mm thick. The polished bezel contrasts with the rest of the case’s surface; the watch is rated water-resistant to 3 bar. The screw-down, engraved sapphire crystal case back offers a view of the movement. This particular watch is fitted with a black alligator leather strap and was serviced at A. Lange & Söhne as part of the 2026 inspection; the corresponding receipt is available.
Aesthetics & Readability
The dial, crafted from solid silver with a Rhodié finish, features solid gold appliqués and hour markers; the hands are made of rhodium-plated gold and blued steel. The off-center arrangement of the hour and minute hands, small seconds, large date, and power reserve indicator follows the characteristic Lange 1 architecture and ensures clear readability despite the additional time zone sub-dial. Two day/night indicators complement the functionality for home and local time.
