Ebel 1911 "85 Years" Anniversary Set, 18-karat rose gold – Ref. 5080916S & 590910
Concept & History
Ebel was founded on July 15, 1911, in La Chaux-de-Fonds by Eugène Blum and Alice Lévy. The 1911 collection was introduced in 1986 to mark the company’s 75th anniversary. In 1996, to celebrate its 85th anniversary, Ebel released a limited-edition special edition of the 1911 in 18-karat rose gold. Eighty-five pairs were produced in honor of the company’s founders. Each pair consists of a men’s watch and a women’s watch. The men’s watch bears the reference number 5080916S. The women’s watch bears the reference number 590910. This set was first sold in 1996. The pair offered here is in like-new condition. It comes with the original box and original paperwork.
Caliber & Technology
This men's watch is powered by the Ebel Caliber 080. It is an automatic movement with two mainspring barrels. Two mainspring barrels store the movement’s power reserve. The crystal case back offers a view of the caliber. The ladies’ watch is powered by the quartz caliber 088. The quartz movement does not require winding. Its case back is made of rose gold and remains closed. The two watches thus differ in their power source and case back design. Both models are water-resistant to 30 meters.
Case & Material
The case, bezel, bracelet, and folding clasp on both watches are made of 18-karat rose gold. The men’s watch measures 38 mm in diameter. The women’s watch measures 26 mm. A scratch-resistant sapphire crystal protects the dial on each watch. The case backs differ. The men’s watch has a glass case back. The women’s watch features a solid rose gold case back. The bracelet on both watches is made of the same material as the case. The folding clasp is also rose gold. The set thus features a consistent choice of materials.
Aesthetics & Readability
Both watches feature a mother-of-pearl dial. It is hand-guilloché. On the men’s watch, rose gold appliqués add accents. They stand out against the light mother-of-pearl background. The women’s watch features a diamond-set dial. Rose gold defines the overall look of both watches. The case, bracelet, and dial elements are all in the same shade. Mother-of-pearl serves as the common foundation for both models. Together, the men’s and women’s watches form a cohesive set.
