Alpina Startimer Pilot Automatic Chronograph
Concept & Heritage
The Startimer collection picks up on the tradition of professional pilot's watches that Alpina produced for air forces in the first half of the 20th century. The reference AL-860X4SP26 continues this history and focuses on uncompromising readability and instrumental functionality. As limited edition this model is aimed at collectors who appreciate the combination of historical design code and modern manufacturing quality.
Caliber & Technology
The drive is provided by the Caliber AL-860, a robust automatic movement with a classic bi-compax layout. The construction is based on proven chronograph architecture, modified for the symmetrical arrangement of the totalizers at 3 and 9 o'clock. The movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a gear autonomy of 46 hours. A decorated rotor can be seen through the visible base.
Housing & materiality
The satin-finished and polished case Stainless steel has a diameter of 44 mm, which underlines the presence of a classic observation watch. The non-slip crown and the distinctive chronograph pushers enable safe operation even when wearing gloves. With a water resistance of 10 ATM and a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, the watch is ideally equipped for daily use.
Aesthetics & readability
The dial follows the strict logic of cockpit instruments. Large, luminous-coated numerals and hands guarantee that the time can be read immediately. The bi-compax arrangement gives the face of the watch a harmonious balance. Red accents, such as the Alpina triangle on the second hand, break up the austere design without compromising functionality. As the watch unworn the finish is flawless.
