Caliber & Technology
The chronograph is powered by the Caliber 4130, the first chronograph movement developed entirely by Rolex. It has a vertical clutch for a precise start without „jerking“ and a power reserve of 72 hours. This Z-series already includes the paramagnetic Parachrome spiral which makes the movement insensitive to magnetic fields. As the watch is unworn, the movement and oils are in their original, unused condition, which underlines the authenticity of this timepiece.
Housing & material
The 40 mm Housing made of Stainless steel 904L presents itself in flawless NOS condition without „micro-swirls“ on the polished surfaces. The decisive highlight of this example is the ClaspContrary to the standard version of many Z series, this strap already features the modernized clasp with polished flanks without through-holes. This solid construction provides a feel and quality that was otherwise reserved for much later models and eliminates the „rattling“ of earlier references.
Aesthetics & readability
The white dial, often referred to as „Aphrodite White“, impresses with the cool elegance of the silver-rimmed totalizers. The hour markers and hands are Superluminova which glows a classic shade of green in the dark. For connoisseurs, this visual difference to the later blue „Chromalight“ mass is the distinguishing feature of the neo-vintage era. The combination of this classic „face“ and the modern „No-Holes“ clasp makes the watch unique on the wrist.
