Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Tokyo 2020
Concept & History
Omega has served as the official timekeeper for the Olympic Games since 1932. Tokyo 2020 marked its 29th appearance in this role. To commemorate the occasion, this special edition of the Seamaster Diver 300M was created and unveiled 100 days before the start of the Games. The color scheme echoes the design of the Games’ emblem. The model 522.30.42.20.04.001 was not a limited edition. The reference to the event is subtle: neither the dial nor the case bears any indication of the Games; only the sapphire crystal caseback displays the emblem. It first went on sale in 2021.
Caliber & Technology
Inside, the watch is powered by the Caliber 8800, an automatic movement with a Co-Axial escapement and double-sided winding. The frequency is 25,200 A/h, and the power reserve is 55 hours. The Co-Axial design reduces friction in the escapement. The movement is certified as a Master Chronometer by METAS and is resistant to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss. The design features a free-sprung balance wheel and a silicon balance spring. The finishing includes a rhodium-plated surface and Geneva stripes in an arabesque pattern. The sapphire crystal case back with NAIAD-Lock provides a clear view of the movement.
Case & Material
The case measures 42 mm in diameter and is made of stainless steel. Satin-finished surfaces alternate with polished bevels. The case thickness is 13.56 mm, and the lug-to-lug width is 49.90 mm. The unidirectional rotating bezel features a blue ceramic insert with a diving scale in white enamel. The helium escape valve is located at 10 o’clock, and the crown is screw-down. Water resistance is 300 m. The lug width is 20 mm. The stainless steel bracelet ends in a folding clasp with fine adjustment and a diver’s extension. The watch offered here is in very good condition and comes as a full set.
Aesthetics & Readability
The dial is made of white ceramic with a laser-engraved wave pattern. The applied hour markers and hands are blued and coated with Super-LumiNova. The “Seamaster” lettering is in red. The date window is located at 6 o’clock. The contrast between the light background and the blue elements ensures excellent readability even in low light. The domed sapphire crystal is anti-reflective on both sides.
