Chronomat B01 42 Green
Concept & History
The Chronomat collection was introduced in 1984 to mark Breitling’s centennial anniversary and signaled the brand’s return to mechanical chronographs after quartz movements had dominated the market in previous years. It was based on a chronograph developed in 1983 in collaboration with the Italian aerobatic team Frecce Tricolori, whose robust design continues to shape the collection’s aesthetic to this day. The current generation Chronomat B01 42 continues this concept with the brand’s in-house movement; the present reference AB0134101L2S1 with a green dial is part of the current collection and was first sold in September 2025.
Caliber & Technology
The model is powered by the in-house Caliber B01, an automatic movement manufactured by Breitling itself and featuring a chronograph function. The movement is COSC-certified and has a power reserve of 70 hours. The chronograph function is displayed via three sub-dials (seconds, 30-minute, and 12-hour counters), complemented by a date display at 6 o’clock. Start, stop, and reset are operated via the two side pushers. The watch is water-resistant to 200 meters (20 ATM), and the screw-down crown underscores its technical design for everyday use.
Case & Material
The stainless steel case measures 42 mm in diameter and features the unidirectional rotating Chronomat bezel with four Rider tabs and a distinct click mechanism. The sapphire crystal protects the dial from scratches. The watch is worn on a green rubber strap in a Rouleaux design with a stainless steel folding clasp and push-button mechanism. This particular watch is offered in new/unworn condition with the full set of accessories and comes with a manufacturer’s warranty valid through September 2030.
Aesthetics & Readability
The green dial contrasts with the three black sub-dials, ensuring a clear visual separation of the displays. The hour markers and hands are silver in color and coated with luminescent material, which improves readability in low light. The tachymeter scale on the outer edge of the dial complements the chronograph function with a speed measurement feature. The overall effect is one of a sporty, technical character that clearly reflects its origins in the Chronomat line and proves equally reliable in everyday life and in professional use.
