Concept & technology
The Long 31 with the reference 130.032 represents a technical turning point in precision watchmaking. It was the first mechanical wristwatch in the world to offer a Power reserve from 31 days. In order to store this enormous amount of energy, two stacked barrels, each with 185-centimeter-long springs, are used. Due to the high torque forces, the movement is not wound via the crown, but via a separate Key elevator on the back of the case. A patented tensioning mechanism between the double mainspring barrel and the oscillating system ensures a constant drive throughout the month and therefore maximum rate stability.
Caliber & Details
The monumental Caliber L034.1 consists of 406 individual parts and completely fills the housing volume. It is regulated in the classic way via a Gooseneck fine adjustment on the hand-engraved balance bridge. Despite its massive dimensions, the movement is finished to the highest Glashütte standards: The three-quarter plate made of untreated German silver is finished with the Glashütte stripe cut while the bearing jewels are mounted in screwed Gold chatons are set. Blued screws and polished Chamfers underline the craftsmanship of this Grande Complication.
Housing & construction
The housing made of 18 carat red gold measures 45.9 mm in diameter and has a height of 15.9 mm on. These dimensions are due to the design to accommodate the enormous energy stores. The three-part design features the typical alternation of polished bezels and satin-finished middle section. The lugs are manufactured separately and screwed on. The sapphire crystal on the back provides a view of the winding mechanism and the overcoil movement, which switches visibly every ten seconds.
Aesthetics & readability
The solid silver dial in the color Argenté presents the information with surgical clarity. The dominant element is the large power reserve display in the right-hand segment, whose scale covers the entire month. The characteristic Large date at the 10 o'clock position provides a visual counterweight. The hands and appliqués made of Red gold correspond harmoniously with the case material. A hand-stitched alligator leather strap secures the considerable weight of the timepiece on the wrist.
