1893 Johannes Dürrstein Moon Phase Edition
Concept & History
The D007.458.16.017.00 brings historical design features of traditional pocket watches into the present day of Saxon fine watchmaking. Developed as a mechanical tribute to the company’s founder, the model adheres to strict classical design codes. The architecture of the dial design, featuring a railway-style minute track, draws on the functional aesthetics of the 19th century, while the construction adheres to the latest manufacturing standards. The integrated full calendar with moon phase indication attests to high horological standards and positions the model as a sophisticated complication within the collection.
Caliber & Technology
The beat is set by the hand-wound caliber UNG-58.S1, which operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. Noteworthy is the integration of an anti-magnetic silicon balance spring, which stabilizes the amplitude and ensures a 60-hour power reserve. The architecture reveals traditional finishes, including the typical Glashütte three-quarter plate. The calendar functions—date, day of the week, month, and moon phase—are mechanically and precisely switched. An Incabloc shock protection system protects the sensitive balance and escapement system from external mechanical influences.
Case & Material
The stainless steel case has a 41 mm diameter and combines striking visual appeal with ergonomic comfort. The complex edge finishing is evident in the precise interplay of polished and satin-finished surfaces. Scratch-resistant, double-sided anti-reflective sapphire crystal protects the front, while the sapphire crystal case back offers an unobstructed view of the hand-wound movement’s finishing. The construction has a water resistance of 10 bar. The model is mounted on a leather strap secured by a double folding clasp made of stainless steel.
Aesthetics & Readability
The design of the white enamel-look dial prioritizes maximum contrast for excellent readability. Blued hands made of stainless steel facilitate quick time-reading, while rose gold-colored hands functionally delineate the full calendar. A deeply recessed flange lends the dial architecture three-dimensional depth. The moon phase display blends seamlessly into the small seconds sub-dial. Every typographic detail serves to convey information objectively and reflects the purist instrument aesthetics of historic observation watches.
