Breitling Chronomat
Concept & History
The development of this model traces back to a collaboration with the Frecce Tricolori aerobatic team in the 1980s. The model B13050.1 represents the evolution of this professional pilot’s chronograph in the 1990s. A distinctive design feature remains the functional tab bezel, which was originally designed to protect the crystal and allow for operation while wearing flight gloves. The instrument embodies uncompromising functionality for aviation and marks a defining design era for the Manufacture.
Caliber & Technology
Inside the case beats the extremely robust Breitling 13, which is based on the proven architecture of the Valjoux 7750. The self-winding mechanical movement features a power reserve of 42 hours and oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. An Incabloc shock protection system shields the escapement from physical impacts, while the classic cam control ensures precise operation and reliable reset of the chronograph functions.
Case & Material
The architectural design, crafted from stainless steel and solid 18-karat yellow gold accents, combines structural integrity with a strong visual presence. The case features a moderate diameter of 39 mm, giving the watch an ergonomic and balanced fit on the wrist. A screw-down crown protects the mechanism from external influences, while the characteristic gold riders on the steel bezel facilitate tactile operation of the rotating bezel.
Aesthetics & Readability
The dial features a deep blue, flanked by gold sub-dials with blued hands that provide a strict structure for the measured time intervals. Applied indices and hands are coated with luminescent material to ensure readability even in low-light conditions. A sloping rehaut with a tachymeter scale frames the watch face. The ensemble is completed by a blue Haileder strap, which materially extends the watch’s aeronautical character.
