Concept & History
The 156.1 builds on the legacy of Sinn’s pilot’s chronographs. The Model 155 is considered its original predecessor. It was marketed as the Bundeswehr Pilot’s Chronograph. Sinn acquired decommissioned Bundeswehr chronographs from Heuer-Leonidas and sold them in small quantities during the 1980s and early 1990s. Its successors, the 156 and 156 MILITARY, were initially equipped with the Lemania 5012 movement and later with the Lemania 5100, featuring a central minute stop. This movement served as the model for the SZ01. The 156.1 was honored with the German Design Award 2025 (Excellent Product Design). This particular watch was first sold in May 2025.
Caliber & Technology
Inside, the watch is powered by the Sinn SZ01 chronograph movement with automatic winding. It features 28 jewels and operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. A split-second chronograph function is included. The movement is anti-magnetic in accordance with DIN 8309. A distinctive feature is the 60-minute split-second hand that springs out from the center, allowing for quick and accurate recording of elapsed times. Functions include hours, minutes, small seconds, date, and chronograph.
Case & Material
The case is made of bead-blasted stainless steel and measures 43 mm in diameter. The total height is 15.45 mm. The lug width is 22 mm. The weight without the strap is 98 grams. The case was redesigned for the 156.1 and features a screw-down case back. The crystal is made of sapphire with anti-reflective coating on both sides. The captive pilot’s bezel rotates smoothly without detents. It is made of stainless steel with a black hard-coating applied over a tegimented base. The watch is water-resistant to 10 bar.
Aesthetics & Readability
The dial is matte black. The numerals and the hour and minute hands are coated with luminescent material. The rotating bezel features a minute scale. Thanks to the luminescent dot in the triangle at 12 o’clock, the bezel’s starting mark remains visible even in the dark. The date is displayed in a window at the 3 o’clock position. The chronograph’s central minute display improves the readability of timed intervals. This watch is unworn. The package includes the watch box, outer carton, warranty card, instruction manual, and tools.
