Nomos Glashütte Ludwig 35 mm - The entry-level purist watch
Concept & History
The reference 201 marks the original design of the Ludwig line. Unlike later models with sapphire crystal backs, this design is strictly based on the historical tradition of Glashütte pocket watches: A closed back protects the movement. This design makes the watch the thinnest mechanical watch in the Nomos portfolio of this era. It offers the most authentic introduction to the world of Saxon manufactories, reduced to the essentials.
Caliber & Technology
The centerpiece is the Manufacture caliber Alpha, Nomos' first own movement. Despite the closed case back, the technology is manufactured to the highest standards: Glashütte three-quarter plate, stop second and Temperature blued screws are installed. With a Power reserve from approx. 43 hours hand-winding is a daily ritual. Note for buyers: Due to the storage period since 2012 (NOS), the price was calculated in such a way that a preventive inspection of the plant remains economically attractive.
Housing & material
The absence of a sight glass in the base reduces the overall height of the Stainless steel-housing to extremely flat 6.3 mm. This gives the Ludwig a wearing comfort that modern automatic watches cannot match - it glides effortlessly under any shirt cuff. The three-part design with the characteristically narrow lugs looks present on the wrist, but never obtrusive.
Aesthetics & readability
The dial is galvanized and silver-plated in white, which creates a fine-grained shimmer in the light. The Roman numerals and the filigree railroad minute scale on the Rehaut define the classic alignment. Pointer from temperature blued steel (Cornflower Blue) set the only color accent on the monochrome surface. The reference 201 is design culture in its purest form - without the distraction of looking at the rotor or the movement.
