Concept & History
The Discovery line marked Ebel's expansion into the functional sports timepiece segment in the 1990s. The reference 183912 combines the organic lines of the brand with the technical architecture of a diver's watch. The model was aimed at a clientele that demanded maritime resilience but did not want to do without the ergonomic advantages of the „architects of time“. This version positions itself as a luxurious instrument through the use of precious metals and a dial in a classic marine color.
Caliber & Technology
Inside, the Caliber Ebel 83, The watch is equipped with a high-precision quartz movement, which is ideally suited to the compact case due to its low height. The construction guarantees a water resistance of 20 ATM, This is ensured by a multiple sealing system on the screw-down crown. The unidirectional rotating bezel made of 750 yellow gold enables the setting of dive times. The technical design prioritizes shock resistance and ease of maintenance over mechanical complexity, in line with the sporting requirements profile.
Housing & material
The satin-finished housing Stainless steel is characterized by the visible screw fittings typical of the brand. The bezel and the intermediate elements of the integrated strap are made from solid 750 yellow gold manufactured. Despite the robust specification of 20 ATM the housing measures moderate 28 mm in diameter. The five-screw bezel design is not only an aesthetic feature, but also serves to ensure the structural integrity of the case seal.
Aesthetics & readability
The deep blue dial forms the visual centerpiece of the reference 183912 and creates a maritime contrast to the warm tones of the 750 yellow gold-elements. The applied indices are set in gold and coated with luminous material to ensure legibility even under water. A flat sapphire crystal protects the front. The rehaut features a fine minute scale. The date display at 3 o'clock blends harmoniously into the blue color scheme without disturbing the symmetry.
