Concept & Heritage
The IW379103 combines the classic Spitfire line with one of the most sophisticated complications in haute horlogerie. Launched in 2009, the model combines a flyback chronograph with a perpetual calendar including a large digital date display - a technical masterpiece from the Schaffhausen-based manufacturer. The 46 mm measuring Rose goldThe case with polished two-body construction and sloping lugs emphasizes the typical pilot's watch character, while the magnetic field-protected soft iron core ensures precision even under adverse conditions.
Caliber & Technology
The centerpiece is the in-house Caliber 89801 with 52 stones and rhodium-plated finish with oeil-de-perdrix cut. The automatic winding mechanism delivers a Power reserve of 68 hours at a frequency of 28,800 A/h (4 Hz). The flyback function allows the chronograph to be reset immediately, while the perpetual calendar automatically takes into account the length of months and leap years up to the year 2100. The escapement has a stop-seconds mechanism, a self-compensating flat hairspring and fine adjustment in five positions.
Housing & processing
The 18 carat rose gold-housing with 17.5 mm height protects the movement with a screw-down back and a pressure-resistant sapphire crystal attachment - a nod to aviation DNA. The Waterproof up to 60 meters and the screw-down crown protect the highly complex movement against environmental influences. The exhibition back provides a view of the elaborate movement decoration and the automatic rotor.
Aesthetics & readability
The slate gray dial with sunburst decoration features applied, luminescent Arabic numerals and baton indices. The two rectangular digital windows for the date (9 o'clock) and month (3 o'clock) form the optical center, while the combined totalizer for 60 minutes and 12 hours at 12 o'clock and the small seconds with leap year display at 6 o'clock complete the technical concept. The gold-colored Spitfire sword-shaped hands with luminous material and the central chronograph hand ensure optimum legibility.
