Tudor Black Bay
Concept & History
The Reference M79230B-0008 represents the second generation of the modern Black Bay line, which differs from its predecessor by the introduction of proprietary drive technology. Historically, this model cites the diver's watches of the 1950s, in particular the reference 7924 „Big Crown“. The „Midnight Blue“ bezel used here is a tribute to the timepieces that Tudor once supplied to the French National Navy. This example from the year 2021 is in unworn, mint condition and benefits from a current manufacturer's warranty until September 2026.
Caliber & Technology
The technical centerpiece is the Manufacture caliber MT5602, a COSC-certified automatic movement. It was developed to combine robustness with precision. A silicon balance spring ensures insensitivity to magnetic influences, while the variable inertia balance is fixed by a stable bridge. The architecture of the movement ensures Power reserve of 70 hours, which allows the watch to be taken off over the weekend without having to be reset („weekend proof“). The Chronometer gear is guaranteed by stringent tests and often exceeds the official standards in practice.
Housing & material
The housing measures 41 mm diameter and consists of satin-finished and polished Stainless steel. A characteristic feature of the Reference M79230B is the lack of a crown guard, which emphasizes the historical silhouette. The tube of the screw-down winding crown is made of anodized aluminium in blue to match the bezel inlay. The water resistance is up to 200 meters (20 bar) is specified. The solid steel bracelet has a riveted look on the sides, a design reference to the folding bracelets of the 1950s and 1960s, but executed with modern manufacturing precision.
Aesthetics & readability
The matt black, domed dial forms the background for the characteristic „Snowflake“ hands, a Tudor trademark since 1969. The applied indices and hands are generously filled with luminous material, which ensures optimum legibility under adverse lighting conditions. In contrast to the warmer „gilt“ look of other variants, the blue version features silver accents on the hands and indices, giving the timepiece a cool, technical look. A domed sapphire crystal rounds off the vintage appearance without compromising the scratch resistance.
