PATEK PHILIPPE Grande Taille Chronograph 5070G
Historical relevance and aesthetics
With the introduction of the Reference 5070 the Patek Philippe manufacture marked a significant turning point in haute horlogerie. As the first purely hand-wound chronograph since the discontinuation of the reference 1463 in the 1960s, this model redefined the category. The case made of 18-karat white gold measures an atypical 42 mm by Patek standards - hence the name „Grande Taille“. This dimensioning allows perfect legibility of the dial, which radiates a technical sobriety that is highly appreciated by collectors thanks to a double-stepped bezel and blackened gold numerals.
The CH 27-70 caliber
The drive is provided by the legendary Caliber CH 27-70, based on one of the best chronograph movements in history, the Nouvelle Lemania 2310, which has been massively modified and finished by Patek Philippe. It has a Gyromax balance, a Breguet spiral and a classic shift wheel control. The bridges are finished with Côtes de Genève and the edges are lavishly beveled and polished. The movement bears the prestigious Geneva seal. The complex mechanics can be viewed through the sapphire crystal case back. Thanks to the Service in the year 2025 amplitude and rate values are in the optimum range, which ensures the longevity of this watchmaking milestone.
