Concept & History
The Ref. 169 embodies the purist Bauhaus philosophy of the Glashütte manufactory in perfect form. This specific version adds two of the most useful complications in mechanical watchmaking to the basic functional design. As a New Old Stock from the year 2013 this timepiece is a rarity on the secondary market. The design focuses on absolute reduction, whereby the mechanical extensions have been seamlessly integrated into the extremely symmetrical appearance of the wristwatch.
Caliber & Technology
The drive is provided by the precise Manufacture caliber DUW 4401 with manual winding. A patented module controls the decentralized indication of the 42 hours power reserve. The traditional finish is visible through the sapphire crystal back: The rhodium-plated Glashütte three-quarter plate wears noble Côtes de Genève, while temperature blown Blue screws and polished Chamfers underline the high standard of craftsmanship. The assembly ensures a highly stable amplitude through strict fine adjustment. In addition, a Incabloc shock protection effectively protects the balance staff from mechanical shocks.
Housing & material
The cylindrical housing of the Ref. 169 consists of Stainless steel and is completely polished to a high gloss. With a classic diameter of 35 mm the design is subordinate to the dimensions of traditional dress watches. Filigree, angled lugs ensure an ergonomic fit on the wrist. Flat polished Sapphire crystal protects the dial, while a sapphire crystal back reveals the movement. The construction is up to 3 ATM waterproof and therefore protected against everyday splashing water.
Aesthetics & readability
The galvanized, white silver-plated dial captivates with maximum clarity. The black typography of Arabic numerals and narrow indices provides an excellent contrast. Cornflower blue hands ensure legibility from any angle. A two-tone indicator visualizes the power reserve prominently in the upper dial segment. The recessed small seconds and the harmoniously integrated window date at six o'clock complete the dial layout. A narrow Rehaut frames the display precisely without disturbing the flat proportions.
