The PAM00243 represents the consistent further development of professional diving instruments for extreme conditions. Based on historical military contracts with the Italian Navy, this model combines the characteristic crown protection bridge design with maximum requirements for pressure resistance. As part of the Submersible collection, this timepiece is aimed at collectors who appreciate a functional instrument watch with a distinctive presence. The architecture of the 44 mm the large case takes up the proportions of historic cases, but has been developed for professional deep-sea missions up to 100 ATM structurally modified extensively.

Case & Material

The massively constructed case is made of satin Stainless steel 316L and measures 44 mm in diameter. The unidirectional bezel for dive time measurement features polished raised indices and clicks with high precision. A 5.1 mm strong, anti-reflective sapphire crystal protects the dial and withstands the immense pressure of 1000 meters Water depth. The screw-down case back Stainless steel guaranteed in combination with the patented crown guard for maximum water resistance. The case edges are finished with fine bevels that emphasize the instrumental character.

Aesthetics & Readability

The matte black dial of the PAM00243 is uncompromisingly designed for maximum contrast. Large hour and minute markers filled with luminous material dominate the dial, and together with the broad hands, ensure optimal readability underwater. The small seconds subdial at the nine o'clock position provides a visual function check during the dive. The design foregoes superfluous ornamentation in favor of a puristic, highly functional aesthetic. The present Reference PAM00001 from around 1999 is an exemplary collector's item for the technological transition at Panerai. The striking 44 mm case made of highly polished stainless steel stands out with its solid horns and iconic crown guard. This model features the coveted L SWISS L dial, which allows the use of Luminova characterized. In contrast to the older tritium dials, this luminous material offers outstanding long-term stability without chemical decomposition processes. The dial in the classic luminor configuration with the small seconds at 9 o'clock thus retains its deep black contrast perfectly. The precise Chamfers and the clean Rehaut underline the high manufacturing quality of this era.

Caliber and mechanics

The timepiece is powered by the robust Caliber OP II (based on ETA 6497-1). The hand-wound movement with a Power reserve of approx. 56 hours was realized as part of the Service 2025 fully audited. The Amplitude and the gear behavior is regulated to an excellent level. The bridges feature the brand-typical Finissage which is protected by the solid steel case back. The Reference PAM00243 marks a milestone in the evolution of professional diving watches from Neuchâtel. The iconic 1950 Case made of satin-finished stainless steel offers a massive presence with its 44 mm diameter, but differs from the standard models due to its more prominent height and reinforced horns. Designed for saturation diving, this reference is equipped with an automatic Helium valve on the left-hand side of the case and a tested compressive strength of up to 1000 meters (100 bar). The unidirectional rotating bezel with scaled relief indices and the patented crown guard guarantee functionality under extreme conditions. The anti-reflective Sapphire crystal is extremely thick at 5.1 mm to withstand the enormous water pressure.

Caliber & Performance

The driving force is the Caliber OP III, based on the Valjoux 7750 architecture, but extensively modified and certified as a chronometer (COSC). It operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers maximum reliability. The dial impresses with maximum contrasts: the applied indices and skeletonized hands are generously coated with luminous material, which ensures legibility in absolute darkness. A date with internal magnifying glass at 3 o'clock and the small seconds at 9 o'clock complete the layout. This example from 2007 (J-series) comes with the complete scope of delivery and demonstrates the transition to modern Panerai manufacturing depth.

Conception & Innovation

The PAM00299 stands for the classic Luminor architecture with cushion-shaped Stainless steelcase and the brand-protected crown guard as a functional component. The layout follows the Marina logic: small seconds at 9 o'clock, date at 3 o'clock, clear luminous zones for readability in low-light conditions. With 44 mm the presence is deliberately instrumental, without departing from the proportions of the Luminor line.

Caliber & Technology

Inside, the OP III, an automatic movement based on the Valjoux 7750-P1. The design dispenses with the chronograph function, but retains the robust 7750 DNA with hours, minutes, small seconds and date. The power reserve is 42 hours power reserve. Technically, the movement is positioned as a reliable everyday drive with service-friendly parts and stable adjustability.

Case & processing

The Stainless steelThe case is sealed by a sapphire crystal and is water-resistant to 30 ATM designed. The specification is therefore clearly dimensioned for sports and water use, while the crown protection offers additional mechanical protection against shocks and unintentional adjustment. On the steel bracelet, the watch looks particularly closed and „tooly“, while the clasp is subordinate to its functional character.
