Concept & History

The launch of the Offshore line in 1993 pushed the boundaries of the traditional sports watch with more extreme proportions. The present reference 26470OR.OO.1000OR.01, known in collectors„ circles as “Brick" due to its enormous weight, takes this approach to the extreme. It combines the radical lines inspired by Gérald Genta with the undeniable presence of 18 carat rose gold. The timepiece embodies uncompromising solidity and at the same time preserves the architectural rigor of the octagonal bezel, which is made from a stainless steel frame with eight visible screws. White gold is fixed.

Caliber & Technology

The mechanical drive is provided by the caliber 3126 / 3840. The in-house basic caliber serves as the foundation 3120, which is connected to the chronograph module 3840 is coupled. The complex architecture of 365 individual parts requires 59 rubies to minimize friction in the gear train. The system clocks with 21,600 semi-oscillations per hour and provides a constant Power reserve from 50 hours. One Incabloc shock protection protects the vibrating organ. The Finissage includes Perlage and Côtes de Genève, while a ball bearing rotor made of 22 carat gold secures the elevator.

Case & Material

With a diameter of 42 mm and a thickness of 14.2 mm, the case crafted from 18-karat rose gold commands a striking physical presence. The solid link bracelet and the case feature an elaborate finish of satin-finished surfaces and mirror-polished bevels. Pushers and a screw-down crown made of black ceramic provide a functional contrast to the heavy precious metal. The construction guarantees a water resistance of 100 meters and preserves the sporty core competence of this solid chronograph under extreme conditions.

Aesthetics & Readability

The rose gold-plated dial bears the brand-specific Méga Tapisserie pattern, which gives the face of the watch three-dimensional depth. Black totalizers for the chronograph function create a hard, functional contrast to the background. The applied Arabic numerals and the Royal Oak hands filled with luminous material are also accentuated in black. On the outer edge of the dial, the steeply sloping Rehaut with tachymeter scale for precise speed measurements. The deeper date indication at three o'clock is integrated into the dial by means of an integrated date display under the anti-reflective Sapphire crystal positioned magnifying glass in the symmetrical layout.

Case & Ergonomics

The Reference 25721TI.OO.1000TI.02 represents a significant evolutionary stage of the original Offshore. Made from lightweight but extremely durable Titanium, This model breaks with the massive heaviness of its steel predecessor („The Beast“) without losing its visual dominance. The case diameter of 42 mm is visually enlarged by the striking height and the crown guard. The characteristic octagonal bezel, fixed by eight visible hexagonal screws in white gold, sits on a solid gasket that is visibly positioned between the case and bezel. The integrated titanium strap with folding clasp guarantees excellent balance on the wrist despite the dimensions of the timepiece.

Caliber & Precision

Inside the antimagnetically shielded case, the Caliber 2226/2840. This is a modular movement based on a Jaeger-LeCoultre base caliber, which has been married to a chronograph module from Dubois Dépraz. The balance oscillates at 28,800 vibrations per hour. Particular attention is paid to the Rubber coating of the crown and the chronograph pushers - a technical detail that optimizes grip and feel and is considered a significant feature of the early Offshore generations.

Aesthetics & details

The dial is kept in a dark blue and is decorated with the fine Petite tapestry-pattern, which collectors today often prefer to the later introduced Méga tapestry. The sub-dials for the chronograph functions and the small seconds are discreetly contrasting in color. An internal Tachymeter scale on the rehaut underlines the sporty claim. The luminous indices and hands in Royal Oak design ensure legibility in all lighting conditions. A magnifying glass above the date at the 3 o'clock position, which, unlike the classic Royal Oak, is located under the sapphire crystal, rounds off the functional design.
