The solid 44 mm case is made of Oystersteel, Rolex's corrosion-resistant stainless steel. The watch features the patented Ringlock system, which enables it to withstand extreme deep-sea conditions. A helium escape valve is integrated to ensure pressure equalisation during saturation dives. The unidirectional rotating bezel with a 60-minute scale enables divers to measure their dive time precisely. The Cerachrom bezel insert is scratch-resistant and colourfast. The black dial is equipped with large, easy-to-read luminous indices and hands. The Chromalight luminous material ensures a long and intensive afterglow. Reference 116660 was also offered with a blue dial that fades to black. This variant is also known as the "James Cameron" Deepsea, as it is reminiscent of James Cameron's deep-sea expedition. A domed sapphire crystal protects the dial and is extremely resistant to pressure. The Oyster bracelet is also made of Oystersteel and is fitted with an Oysterlock folding clasp with Glidelock extension system, which enables precise adjustment to the wrist circumference. The watch is powered by the Rolex Manufacture Calibre 3135, an automatic chronometer movement renowned for its precision and reliability. The movement is COSC-certified (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres).
